Hello everyone! After the wonderful night at the opera the Barber of Seville, came to me this morning wants to dedicate a post to the last day of October, better known as Halloween! Halloween is not a product made in the USA, as one might easily think. Has its roots in Celtic culture of the British Isles, especially Ireland. This population was celebrating the end of summer with "Samhain," the New Year. The new year then began on 1 November, with the arrival of autumn. To the Celts in that day the veil between the world of the living and the dead became so thin that the two universes were touching them. They also believed that the spirits of dead people a year previous round in search of a new body to possess. To discourage the living made their cozy little homes, extinguished the fires in the fireplaces, and were wearing monsters to scare them. The word
Halloween is a contraction of the phrase "All Hallows Eve", that is the night of All Saints. I am the typical orange color reminiscent of the harvest, and late summer, black and announcing the impending darkness of winter!
The symbol of Halloween is the pumpkin. Undisputed star of this event is definitely Jack O'Lantern, pumpkin. Eviscerated, carved grotesque face and illuminated by a candle inside, this vegetable, which is inherited from the Irish folkrore, inspired by the legend of Jack, a drinker and avid gambler, who apparently managed to fool even the devil. At his death he was received either in Paradise or Hell. The man was condemned to wander for eternity in a dark limbo with only a coal company, given to him by Satan to illuminate his path. Jack
he endeavored to last longer that light and then put the ember in a hollowed turnip, obtaining a kind of lantern. Since then, all the night of Halloween, you can see the flame of Jack, nicknamed for this Jack O'Lantern, who wanders in search of his way.
The Irish landed in America replaced the turnips with pumpkins, and readily available in the new land much larger.
